Commercial Flood Damage can Send Your Shallotte Clothing Boutique Out of Style

12/4/2019 (Permalink)

clothing on store shelf SERVPRO can help get your boutique back in business!

SERVPRO's Assessment Includes Remediating the Damage as Well as Odor Prevention

Teens in Shallotte increasingly hold more power over the clothing choices they make, and instead of only a major shopping spree just before school begins, they can now purchase their own clothing items throughout the year. While this is often welcome news for retailers and boutiques, it can become problematic when spring-time flooding affects expected profits just before summer.

Boutique owners who expect commercial flood damage in Shallotte to happen often move stock to higher ground, but the building itself often suffers horrifically. SERVPRO has the staff needed to make it "Like it never even happened." quickly, helping your store reopen and thrive again. Not only does a flood bring in pathogens that carry the risk of disease, these same pathogens, as well as other particles carried along in the water, create stinky odors that can prevent customers from browsing as they did in the past.

Our Odor Control Technician (OCT) works with our Water Damage Restoration Technician (WRT) to ensure that your business not only becomes dry but also healthy again. We know flooding emergencies involve more than just the visible water. Because flooding carries such a high load of debris, carpeting experts recommend complete removal of both carpet and padding after a flooding event. We remove these furnishings from your business and then clean the subfloor. After we sanitize this, we can begin drying it out so the installation of new carpeting can occur. Installing new carpet too soon can lead to mildew growth and ongoing, persistent odors.

A similar problem can happen when the interior of walls remain damp after a flood. Invasive water often carries a tremendous force, and this can push water into otherwise dry spaces that might not become wet under lower-pressured sources of water. We cut away small sections of walls that our infrared thermography devices show to retain moisture. The exterior of the wall might feel completely dry, while the inside remains saturated. Once we make these holes, we can place our air movers strategically so that air currents pass directly behind the wall. This can quickly dry them out and prevent rotting, microbial growth, and disintegration.

SERVPRO of Brunswick and South Columbus Counties can be contacted by calling our 24-hour service line at (910) 755-6717 any day of the year. We proudly serve the communities around Shallotte, Leland, and Southport whenever flood damage threatens their ability to remain in business.

Commercial Water Damage Slows Down Business in Shallotte

11/22/2019 (Permalink)

Water jug Keep the Water in the Cooler, Not on the Floor of Your Shallotte Office

Water finds its way into and under flooring, carpets, furniture and even walls. Without discovery and rapid removal, property and building material can quickly decay or become a source for mold growth and other damage.

Regardless if the source is a storm or broken plumbing, water damage can ruin your Shallotte business in just a few days. SERVPRO understands that you need to reopen your doors and get back to helping customers with as little downtime as possible.

Rapid response is the first (and most important) step to keeping the damage to your business at a minimum. When water evaporates, it does not just disappear, the molecules are in the air and are still a moisture problem that is now spread out over just the floors and carpets to include every surface in the affected area. This can result in secondary damage and can include the following:

1) Mold spores spread further
2) Hardwood floors can begin to warp; grouted tile can uplift
3) Drywall starts to crumble and deteriorate
4) Vinyl flooring begins to bubble up and come loose from the floor underneath

Our SERVPRO restoration teams combat this by using commercial pumps to remove standing water and isolated puddles. If the building's electrical system is compromised, we supply generators to ensure uninterrupted service. Once the water is removed, our technicians then deploy dehumidifiers to dry out the air and specialized heaters designed to draw out water from floors and carpets without searing wood or burning fibers. The faster the drying of the moisture, the less damage and lost time, and the quicker you again have your revenue flow.

If you call us in quickly enough, damage to drywall can be minimized as well. Water absorption continues to travel through the panels as long as there is excessive moisture present. Air movers (industrial fans) and dehumidifiers can quickly stop the process and keep the cost at a, hopefully, affordable level. If too much water has wicked into the drywall, sections may have to be discarded.

The first hours after your business is flooded constitute an emergency situation. Getting a reputable company in to remove standing water and excess moisture increases the speed in which an insurance company will pay out. It is your responsibility to get the ball rolling. If you have a flooding issue at your business, call SERVPRO of Brunswick and South Columbus Counties at (910) 755-6717.

Files restored by SERVPRO after flood. SERVPRO of Brunswick and South Columbus counties can help get your files dry after a water emergency or flood.

Medical record keeping is doing its best to move to digital. Not everything is scannable into an electronic document which means the process is only as fast as the slowest data entry technician. When records become soaked from a sprinkler system, failed plumbing or another source of water, they cannot just be thrown out with the hope each patient has a complete copy of their history.

Commercial Water Removal for a Leland clinic or doctor's office only starts after the majority of the water has been pumped out. Two or three inches of standing water soaking the carpet is a problem, but drying out the contents of a filing cabinet means the difference between staying open or losing patients. Each SERVPRO franchise maintains an extensive equipment inventory to help ensure doctors and their patients keep their relationship intact. Our primary tools to lower humidity and dry records are two types of dehumidifiers: Refrigerant and Desiccant.

The refrigerant dehumidifier draws moisture from the air by forcing air flow through refrigerated coils. This action condenses moisture where it drains into a water tray, or a pump removes it from the room. This type of dehumidifier is preferred where the temperature is over 50 degrees Fahrenheit and the electrical power may be sporadic. It is more efficient on paper and highly porous surfaces such as carpets and drywall.

The desiccant dehumidifier is more productive than the refrigerant dehumidifier in colder climates (below 50 degrees). It lowers moisture levels by forcing air flow over silica gel. The gel surface attracts air vapor and captures it. Water condensed by this method is heated and vented outside of the structure. This type of humidifier is more efficient with dense materials such as hardwood floors and cabinets.

To ensure large numbers of records, the rooms, and storage cabinets used to store them are thoroughly dried, technicians use both types of dehumidifiers. Although the refrigerant is more preferred with paper records, both methods dry documents without damaging them. Protecting medical records from water damage is important to both doctor and client. SERVPRO of Brunswick and S. Columbus Cos. has the experience and equipment to preserve every vital record in your clinic, office or storage site. Water Loss at your Brunswick County Business

8/24/2019 (Permalink)

Commercial water damage to your Brunswick County business is a serious matter, and you want to get the water and damage cleaned up as fast as possible

A water line break in your business can be stressful and confusing since there are many factors to think about when figuring out if there is a leak, where it is, and how to repair it. The most common indication of a leak in your water line is physically seeing water come up on the street, on the sidewalk in front of your shop, or coming through the foundation wall. If the water is coming up in front of your business, it does not necessarily mean the leak is from the water line. Water travels and looks to the point of least resistance to surface.

Commercial water damage to your Brunswick County business is a serious matter, and you want to get the water and damage cleaned up as fast as possible so you can operate as usual again. You need to close your shop while it is being repaired, and that means lost profits. That is when you need to call in the professionals at SERVPRO, who can clean up the water and fix any damages the leak has caused. When the break is small, our technicians can repair it before they begin cleanup. For larger problems, we partner with other professional tradesmen who can fix the break in a timely and reasonable fashion. The municipality should be called in if to inspect and repair major street line breaks.

Another sign of a broken water line is a hissing or rumbling noise. Likely, your water main is broken if your water is not in use when you hear noise on the water pipe. The hissing is a great indicator of water exiting the pipe somewhere in-between the building and the city water main in the roadway.

Another sign is a water pressure which is low. Not all water main leaks result in this. However, it is a possibility that should be checked out by professionals. SERVPRO can help you find the cause for the water line break so that it can be fixed properly and your building does not sustain any more water damage than it already has.

SERVPRO of Brunswick and South Columbus Counties. understands that when water damage of any kind happens to your business, that time is of the essence to prevent further damage and loss. That is why we are ready to come out to your building and help you anytime you need when you reach out to us at (910) 755-6717.

Manufacturing plant affected by fire and water from sprinkler system

A large manufacturing company located in Leland had a small dust fire that ignited just as their 2nd shift employees were finishing.  The maintenance staff tried to fight the fire with extinguishers to no avail.  The fire was significant enough that the sprinkler system throughout the facility discharged and the fire station responded.  The fire did a bit of damage to machinery and the structure, but left soot through at least a third of the operating floor.  The major damage resulted from the discharge of the sprinkler system.  The entire work floor(concrete) was covered with water.  The maintenance manager at the facility knew to call SERVPRO immediately.  SERVPRO of Brunswick & South Columbus Counties responded and began the clean-up and drying overnight as soon as the fire department cleared the scene.  With SERVPRO’s quick overnight response, the company was able to get a portion of the operating floor back up and running the very next day.
